Climate Changemakers

A comic I drew during an Hour of Action while advocating for Clean Electricity Tax Credits in 2021 which I shared across my social networks to encourage folks to contact their representatives.

In November 2011, I joined Climate Changemakers, a group of volunteers from around the world taking climate action together. Every week, there are multiple Hours of Action where volunteers gather virtually to take specific climate actions. As an Action Lead, I help to lead volunteers during our weekly Thursday Hour of Action, guiding folks through the action for that day, answering questions, and fostering an overall sense of optimism and solidarity within the group.

Since joining, I’ve advocated for the passing of the Inflation Reduction Act, promoted building electrification, promoted electric school buses, got out the vote for climate-focused candidates, notified local officials about green bank financing, pushed the EPA for more stringent carbon emission regulations, and pressured my representatives to support the Environmental Justice for All Act — all alongside with my fellow volunteers. These actions included writing countless emails, making frequent phone calls, holding dozens of constituent meetings with representatives’ staff, and submitting several op-eds to local newspapers.

Carving out an hour each week to take real climate action has certainly helped to stave off some of the climate dread and anxiety that presses down on us daily. I’ve learned that taking part in positive action with a spirited, like-minded community can produce real results in our never-ending fight against climate inaction as we build together towards a better future.

Another comic I drew during our advocacy campaign for the Build Back Better Act (now the Inflation Reduction Act) to encourage folks to contact their representatives to pass the bill. Since our advocacy, the Inflation Reduction Act was passed as the largest federal investment in climate initiatives to date.
